Protests in Cusco: twenty-three confirmed injuries, one of them in critical condition due to bullet impact

According to sources from La República, one of the injured during the demonstrations in Cusco is a 50-year-old man who received a bullet wound. The victim is currently undergoing surgery at the Antonio Lorena Hospital and then will go to the ICU.

EsSalud denounced that a group of people attacked another ambulance during protests

Through its social networks, EsSalud indicated that, once again, another of its ambulances has been stoned during protests in the city of Cusco. 

"The Adolfo Guevara Hospital unit was transferring a patient to his home. We regret these acts of violence that put people's lives at risk," the message read.

It is confirmed that all deaths in Juliaca were caused by firearm projectiles

The coordinator of the prosecutors against organized crime, Jorge Chávez Cotrina, told La República that the seventeen fatalities in Juliaca, Puno died from a firearm projectile (PAF).

Cusco: Police injure student representative of the UNSAAC University Federation.

The secretary of the UNSAAC University Federation has been injured after being hit by a pellet at foot height by a police officer on Wednesday, January 11. After this fact, they took him unconscious to the regional hospital; however, his relatives indicated that the door of this hospital was guarded by officers, who prevented his passage.

Thus, in communication with this medium, the president of this federation considered that the Peruvian National Police (PNP) should not be outside this health center.

Cesár Acuña Peralta, regional governor of La Libertad, affirmed that he will seek to dialogue with the representatives of peasant groups to avoid disturbances in the region.

“I am going to call them; we are going to talk with them. We are going to sit at the table and ask them what they need from the regional government, if we can, we will help them, if we cannot, I will make them understand that we cannot help them,” he indicated.

La Libertad: indigenous and peasant patrols confirm strike and ask population to stock up on food.

The indigenous and peasant patrols of the La Libertad region will demonstrate again to demand new elections and the closure of Congress. This was confirmed by the regional president of the Single Central of Peasant Rounds (CUNARC), Pablo Haro Quispe.

The top peasant leader, in a press conference, indicated that the protest will take place on Monday, January 16 and will have the participation of eleven provincial bases, which have 90,000 members. Along these lines, he asked citizens to stock up on food because a forceful stoppage is expected.

Cusco: protesters continue trying to enter the Alejandro Velasco Airport.

Local media have reported that one of the main points of confrontation in Cusco continues to take place outside the Alejandro Velasco airport, where different groups of people have gathered to form pickets. Given this scenario, the PNP has begun to launch tear gas bombs. However, despite these demonstrations, entry to said air terminal remains free.

The University of the Altiplano of Puno issued a statement to mourn the sensitive death of the student of the Faculty of Medicine Marco Antonio Samillan Sanga, who also worked as an intern at the Carlos Monge Medrano Hospital.

Cusco: police guard the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport with a tank.

A group of citizens from La Convención arrived at Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport (CUZ) and held protests in its surroundings and tried to push the wall of the air terminal. This was not a major incident and contingents of the PNP surrounded the Cusco airport and blocked the advance of the demonstrators with tanks, anti-riot equipment and even weapons of war.

Relatives of Nataly, the minor who died in Juliaca, maintain that she went out to buy groceries.

In the collective wake that takes place in the back of the morgue of the Carlos Monge Medrano Hospital in Juliaca, are the friends and relatives of those who died during the clashes between police and citizens.

The father of Nataly, a 17-year-old teenager, maintained that his daughter lost her life due to a bullet in the abdominal area when she went out to shop for groceries.
