President only replied to a general question from the Prosecutor's Office and avoided new questions. Nor did she answer the 47 questions from the defense of family members and the Attorney General's Office.

President Dina Boluarte appeared this morning before the Public Ministry to participate in an expanding investigation into killings by law enforcement during citizen protests earlier this year. However, the interview did not last more than ten minutes because the President decided to avail herself of the right to remain silent.

The proceedings started at 9:12 in the morning, with the participation of the Prosecutor of the Nation, Patricia Benavides, and Prosecutor Carlos Huamán. The latter read out two prosecution provisions to expand the investigation for crimes committed by law enforcement in Lima and Cusco, in addition to injuries in Pucallpa.

At the end, Huamán asked Dina Boluarte what do you have to say and she denied the charges. He then said that as she had already stated this at length in a previous proceeding, Huamán accepted the President's right to remain silent.

After this response, Prosecutor Huamán avoided continuing to read questions from the Public Ministry, according to  Juan José Quispe, lawyer from the Institute of Legal Defense, who accompanied the relatives of the victims.

Then the State Attorney General's Office and the attorney for the relatives asked questions, but President Boluarte chose to remain silent. There were a total of 47 questions that the President avoided answering.

Joseph Campos, defense attorney for the President, tried to prevent these 47 questions from being included in the record of the proceeding; however, the Public Ministry did not grant the request and consigned them for the record.

The same did not happen with questions from the Public Ministry. Well after the first one, Carlos Huamán was stopped from reading the questions and they were not recorded in the minutes either. “It would have been important for the Ministry to also enter your questions”, commented Juan José Quispe.

The attorney for the victim's families regretted that Dina Boluarte has chosen to remain silent in a very important fiscal investigation into crimes committed by the armed forces and police during the protests of December 2022 and January 2023.

“Mrs. Boluarte's attitude has been obstructionist to the investigation. It has been a contempt for the lives of those who have fallen in social protests and, above all, it is going against an international principle, which is the right to the truth that victims have within an investigation”, said Juan José Quispe.
