All deaths in Juliaca protests were caused by firearm projectiles (Spanish)

This was confirmed by the coordinator of the prosecutors against organized crime, Jorge Chavez Cotrina. He assured that the investigations have been opened for qualified homicide and serious injuries.

This morning the last autopsy of the deceased in Juliaca on January 9 was performed. “We have the information that the 17 civilians died from a firearm projectile (PAF)”, declared the coordinator of the prosecutors against organized crime Jorge Chavez Cotrina to La Republica.

With this, he denied the version of the reason for the protestor's deaths by waves or sharp weapons. “They say that we have sent prosecutors from Lima to change the autopsy protocols. That is false. The prosecutor Guido Pilco has seen everything”, he affirmed.

He also denied that a tax investigation has been opened for organized crime. "That is false. The preliminary investigation is for 60 days is classified as qualified homicide and serious injuries”, says Chavez Cotrina.

Cotrina stated the confusion originated because prosecutor Pilco belongs to the prosecutors against organized crime, but his participation does not mean that this is the crime being investigated. “It happens that the prosecutor Pilco is the one who has been there from the beginning since the removal of corpses and autopsies. He is going to complete the urgent procedures, such as interviewing the relatives of the victims, and tomorrow or the day after, the investigation will be evacuated to the competent criminal prosecutor's office in Puno,” he added.
