Ayacucho: date for start of indefinite national strike has not yet been set (Spanish)

President of the Transitional Struggle Committee of the Ayacucho People's Defense Front (FREDPA), Magno Ortega pointed out that the date for the start of the indefinite strike will be determined in the coming days.
“We have the support of the masses, for this indefinite strike approved in the National Assembly of Defense Fronts. The Ayacucho region will not be oblivious to this indefinite national strike, this week will define this date, the national leadership will have to inform us, Lima is the scenario in which we will have the final decisions,” he indicated.
Ortega also pointed out that many social organizations began an indefinite strike, as is the case with the Las Américas Market.
"Several organizations and unions have shown their support for this call, to demand the resignation of Dina Boluarte, closure of the Congress of the Republic, advancement of elections for 2023, Constituent Assembly and immediate release of the leaders of the region," he mentioned.
At another time, Ortega called on the Ayacucho Chamber of Commerce and business unions to join this measure of struggle, which is being called for in the region.
It is worth noting that in the last calls made by FREDPA, the population did not support the strikes 100 percent, and that only some businesses and services decided to not open for prevention reasons, and not in support of the strike.
Another aspect to consider is that many FREDPA delegations have left Ayacucho to continue protests in the city of Lima.
[Editor's note: FREDPA's previous President, Rocío Leandro Melgar, was arrested by the Directorate against Terrorism (DIRCOTE) on January 13, 2023, and is in preventative detention on charges of affiliation and/or belonging to a terrorist organization to the detriment of the State.]
