At least twenty-three people have been injured in a confrontation between the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and a group of protesters who tried to take over the Inca Manco Cápac International Airport in the city of Juliaca, in the Puno Region, confirmed the representative of the Ombudsman's Office, Nivardo Enríquez.

The clashes occurred on the one-month anniversary of the massacre of eighteen protesters at Juliaca Airport by the PNP. The newspaper La República reported that hundreds of protesters confronted PNP officers who are guarding the airport terminal facilities with the support of the Peruvian Army. This morning, thousands of citizens took to the streets of Juliaca to protest and held a mass in honor of the fatalities, but hours later the confrontation broke out.

Enríquez detailed that four of the injured were treated at the Mariano Melgar Health Center, another ten at the Jorge Chávez Health Center, and nine at the Carlos Monge Medrano Hospital. Among the injured, there are three minors (11, 15, and 17 years old). One of the injured was Lizbeth Mamani, an indigenous Quechua youth from the Coasa District in Carabaya Province, who was injured with a tear gas canister. She was immediately helped and transferred to the Mariano Melgar Health Center.

Nivardo Enríquez also indicated that six protesters are detained at the Airport Police Station. In the next few hours, they will be transferred to the PNP State Security offices. Separately, the PNP reported twenty-five officers were injured outside the Juliaca airport in Puno.

In addition, a fire was reported in the warehouse of the Provincial Municipality of San Román, located in the Las Casuarinas sector. It is known that machinery, wheelbarrows, damaged compactors, and some disused items were kept in this place.

San Román's Fire Department moved to the warehouse to attend to the emergency. According to some witnesses, inside the premises there are paintings.

RPP unsuccessfully tried to contact Oscar Cáceres Rodríguez, Mayor of the Provincial Municipality of San Román, to interview him about the incident.
