Madre de Dios: Peruvian National Police and Armed Forces operation unblocks the Interoceanic Highway, and the passage of food trucks resumes (Spanish)

The Armed Forces (FF.AA.) and the Peruvian National Police (PNP) reached the Laberinto District where, after several hours of work, they managed to free one of the most critical points that prevented supply trucks from entering Pucallpa.

A contingent of approximately one thousand members of the PNP and the FF.AA. arrived in the District of Laberinto, located approximately fifty-five kilometers from Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios Region, to carry out the operation to unblock the Interoceanic Highway. Traffic was also opened in the areas of La Pampa and Santa Rosa.

Law enforcement managed to remove the blockades and resumed the passage of trucks that supply supplies to the regional capital.

Laberinto is one of the critical points for the supply of fuel and gas and, for this reason, the road clearing operation extended to the town of Mazuco, more than two hundred kilometers from Puerto Maldonado.

Clashes

The joint operation led to clashes with protesters who resisted the unblocking of the highway. These confrontations resulted in four wounded PNP officers, one of whom was immediately evacuated to Puerto Maldonado. This was stated by PNP General Víctor Josí Zanabria Angulo, head of the Lima Police Region, who was in charge of the operation.

General Zanabria also explained that two hundred troops will remain on the Interoceanic Highway for 29 days to guarantee it remains open.

Long queues due to lack of fuel

According to a team from RPP Noticias, in the city of Puerto Maldonado there are long queues at gas stations and domestic gas supply centers due to the shortage of these products after the road blockade.

The residents indicated that they have been in this situation for several days and that, in addition, there is a lack of essential products in the main markets.

Many residents also indicated that although they understand the reason for the protests against the government of President Dina Boluarte and Congress, they did not support blocking the roads, which they considered a way of harming the population itself.
