Cusco: long lines of up to 3,000 people to buy a cylinder of gas (Spanish)

People camp in line near the LPG bottling plants in the hope of getting a bottle of gas, as well as other types of fuels that are also in short supply.

Residents camp on the outskirts of the bottling plants to be able to buy a container of fuel due to the shortage. In the distributors the ball can be sold for up to two hundred soles

Lines of up to 3,000 people form every day in Cusco to try to buy a gas cylinder, given the severe shortages resulting from the blockades and protests against the government of President Dina Boluarte in this region.

Housewives, workers, and young people camp in the vicinity of the bottling plants in the hope of getting a bottle of LPG, as well as other types of fuels that are also in short supply.

Since mid-January, the lack of LPG was noticed in the different distributors in Cusco, for which reason bad merchants chose to sell the cylinders at a higher price, which even reached two hundred soles.

Thus, the residents prefer to go directly to the packaging plants, located mostly on the outskirts of the city. In this way, plants located in Saylla, Angostura and Poroy began to receive an unusual number of users.

Little by little, gas also ran out in these places, reaching the point of not having a single unit for sale. With the 'truce' offered by some protesters at the beginning of the week, some units with LPG were able to reach Cusco, beginning an entire odyssey to buy the product.

"I don't have an electric stove, I don't have a charcoal stove, we only have a gas stove, and we haven't been able to cook for a week because the tank ran out, at first we were going to restaurants, but they also closed, there is no gas anywhere," said Maura Quispe, a resident of Cusco.

Since last Monday, thousands of people have been lining up outside the Vitagas bottling plant, located in the town of Pucyura, province of Anta, approximately one hour from Cusco, where the situation has become unsustainable due to the large number of residents who arrived in the last few hours.

According to company representatives, they recently managed to get a truck carrying two thousand 10-kilo gas cylinders to enter, for the same number of users, however, it was learned that the number of people in line was over three thousand.

In the afternoon, the Police managed to unblock the area known as La Unión in the district of Izcuchaca, where dozens of trucks were stranded with fuel, gas, and other items.

Yesterday, Tuesday, vandals with slingshots and huaracas attacked passenger transport buses in the city of Cusco, in a new day of violence.
