U.S. Embassy Lima, Peru - Demonstrations and Airport Operations (full alert)

Location: Lima, Peru  

Event: Demonstrations and Airport Operations (January 20, 2023)   

Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in Cusco resumed services at 12:00 p.m. on January 20.  Travelers should contact their airline as necessary for assistance with rescheduling any flights. 

Demonstrations in Lima are scheduled to resume at 2:00 p.m. on January 20 and may continue through the weekend.  Do not attempt to approach protestors and remain in a safe location.   

The U.S. Embassy in Lima plans to resume all in-person consular appointments on Monday, January 23.  Appointments for January 19 and 20 have been rescheduled for the week of January 23.  Please check your email for your rescheduled appointment date and time.  

A state of emergency remains in effect in the departments of Amazonas, La Libertad, and Tacna, Cusco, Puno, Lima and the province of Callao.    

Operations remain suspended at the following airports:    

  • Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport (Arequipa)  
  • Inca Manco Capac International Airport (Juliaca) 
  • Andahuaylas Airport (Andahuaylas)
