U.S. Embassy Lima, Peru: Demonstration Alert: Demonstrations and Airport Operations (full alert)

LOCATION: Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, and Puno, Peru

EVENT:
Flights are expected to resume at Arequipa’s Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport on January 26. U.S. citizens should contact the appropriate airline for flight rescheduling as needed.

Demonstrations and marches in Lima are expected to occur the afternoon of January 24 in the Cercado de Lima neighborhood. Please avoid demonstrations and remain in a safe location. Significant unrest continues to affect Puno, where clashes are taking place between police and protestors. Roadblocks continue to affect travel in and out of the city of Puno. Travel throughout the Cusco region continues to be impacted by roadblocks. Do not attempt to drive around roadblocks. Some protests continue in the city of Cusco.

Operations remain suspended at the following airports:

  • Inca Manco Capac International Airport (Juliaca)
  • Andahuaylas Airport (Andahuaylas)
  • Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport (Arequipa) (until January 26)
