A tour bus has plunged off a cliff in Peru with sixty passengers on board, killing at least twenty-three people.

Emergency crews rushed to the horror scene in Piura, northwest Peru.

Horrifying photos of the crash show the coach on its side with passengers on the ground.

The bus was travelling along Panamericana Norte, which is a major motorway that runs along the west coast of the South American country.

Tour company Aguila Dorada was heading north from Lima to Tumbes with 60 passengers on board, according to The Sun.

The crash was reported at 5am (local time) this morning.

It is thought that the bus lost control on the road and plunged more than 160 feet down a gorge.

Police have confirmed twenty-three people are dead while those injured were taken to a local hospital in Talara, 683 miles northwest of the capital, Lima.

Peru has a high number of road fatalities, with the World Health Organization recording 4,414 deaths on the country's roads in 2020.
