Puno: Army enters the south of the region (Spanish)
Soldiers of the Peruvian Army have entered the south of the Puno Region. Residents of the town center of Molino, Juli District (Chucuito) report that troops have been moving to the border area (Desaguadero and Yunguyo) in the early morning, cleaning the highway, to normalize traffic. Protesters of El Collao Ilave indicated that they will continue with the blockades.
In the district of Laraqueri, a regiment stayed in the bullring watching over the city.
Military Deployment
Taking advantage of the night, a hundred soldiers aboard a caravan of Peruvian Army field vehicles left the city of Puno bound for the Desaguadero border.
Molino residents experienced moments of tension when the soldiers unblocked part of the road that leads to Desaguadero and opened the way for their vehicles.
When the soldiers were questioned by community members, they gave them vague information, that they were only passing through Pomata, Yunguyo, and Desaguadero.
In recent days, several helicopters have been seen constantly flying over these cities, especially traveling on the blocked road.
For their part, the protesters only released a part of the road for the Army vehicles to pass.
Soldiers Collapse
In addition to the soldiers in Laraqueri, there are pictures of other service members who spend the night on the hill suffering from hypothermia. The medical personnel of the Health Center assisted with the emergency transfer of the soldiers to the city of Puno for treatment.
The Blockade Continues
The military left the road to the border unblocked, but hours later Aymara protesters blocked the entire road again and indicated that they continue and that they will not give any truce until President Dina Boluarte resigns, Congress is closed, and new elections are convened
Crucial Week
It is notable that the Army only opened a path for their vehicles to circulate. The Aymaras blocked the highway again and warned that, if police and military unblock them again, they will submit to a "war of attrition" and block it again, as was done last week.
“We don't think there are so many police to watch the whole road; they will be able to unlock a section, after a while we will close it again. They will not make fun of us," warned the President of an Aymara community who watched over his picket line, despite the passage of military and police troops.
