Protests temporarily close Cusco airport reports the MTC (Spanish)

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) reported that, as a preventive measure, the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUS) in Cusco will temporarily suspend its operations. This action, said the ministry, is carried out to safeguard the integrity of people and the safety of aeronautical operations.
On Wednesday, the death of Jlinner Candia Guevara, President of the Provincial Federation of Peasants of Anta, was reported due to the impact of a projectile during the protests. According to the report from the Antonio Lorena Hospital, the victim was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with a diagnosis of thoracic abdominal trauma. At 8:50 pm he passed away.
This morning, a mob tried to demolish a perimeter wall of the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport but was repelled by the police. Clashes later broke out between hundreds of protesters and law enforcement outside the air terminal. Sources from El Comercio confirmed that the protestors had the objective of taking control of the terminal.
The protests are part of a National Strike with citizen mobilizations that demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress and the advancement of elections. In Puno alone, eighteen people died on Monday, one of them a policeman who was burned alive inside a patrol car.
