Protests in Peru: suspension of sale of bus tickets to south of country continues (Spanish)

To the south, the blockade begins at the height of Pisco, while in the north the roads remain open and it is possible to reach Tumbes, Piura, Cajamarca, Trujillo, among others.

As of Saturday January 7, the sale of tickets to southern Peru continues to be suspended. Buses cannot reach Arequipa, Tacna, Cusco, Desaguadero, Puno, Puerto Maldonado and Ica. There are few destinations to the south that are operating normally, since they cannot advance beyond Cañete, Chincha or Pisco.

The blockades on the highways and the impediment to reach the south of the country have caused the low influx of public in the terrestrial terminals located at the intersection of Paseo de la República and 28 de Julio avenues, in the district of La Victoria.

"There is up to Pisco. The tickets are thirty soles. The price is normal. However, for Ica they are not selling tickets due to the blockade, the strike, and the protests that people make to close the Congress," said Ángel Espíritu, one of the passengers who was about to travel south.

On the other hand, the roads to the north remain open and you can reach Tumbes, Piura, Cajamarca, Trujillo, among others.

Reason for the protests

The reason groups of demonstrators in various parts of the territory are protesting is because they demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress and the advancement of general elections to have new representatives.

For now, it has been in the hands of Congress to carry out the pertinent reforms prior to calling new elections. However, they have prioritized an agenda that includes parliamentary re-election, a bicameral congress, and other projects, such as declaring Thanksgiving Day every June 30 to "Give Thanks to Almighty God for Life" or removing logos or brands from the bags that are used in supermarkets so that people "are not means or advertising instruments of those establishments."
