Peru will preserve biodiversity in the Amazon (Spanish)
Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 19. Within the framework of the third day of the Davos 2023 Forum, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, participated in two events that convened the Informal Group of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL, for its acronym in English).
Gervasi also attended an event focused on ways to achieve a sustainable bioeconomy in the Amazon; and two meetings of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the first devoted to preparations for the next ministerial meeting of the WTO, and the second focused on facilitating investments for the development of said organization.
In the IGWEL meetings, the chancellor participated together with approximately forty participants, including state ministers, business leaders and civil society.
The event, entitled “Preparing for a new geopolitical era”, sought to create a propitious space to analyze how, in the last two years, the geopolitical weathervane has shifted from cooperation to competition and now to conflict.
Given this scenario, the IGWEL leaders discussed the implications of these changes in the parameters of cooperation.
On the other hand, the second session of the IGWEL focused on “Charting the course towards COP28”, and invited the same leaders to exchange views on how the public and private sectors can work together to increase climate and natural ambition, meet commitments, and accelerate the deployment of financing.
At the event on the bioeconomy in the Amazon, the foreign minister reaffirmed Peru's commitment to preserve biodiversity by promoting sustainable, fair, and equitable development in the Amazon, highlighting the numerous initiatives led by the Peruvian government as examples of good practices in the region.
To end the day, Foreign Minister Gervasi participated in two events related to the World Trade Organization (WTO). In each one, she was able to reaffirm Peru's commitment to trade multilateralism and a rules-based international system.
