A group of demonstrators who were in the so-called "March for Peace" confronted the PNP in the middle of the public thoroughfare.

Members of the PNP prevented the demonstrators from passing towards Uruguay Avenue. Now, they are heading down Avenida Garcilaso de la Vega to continue the protests.

Foreign university historians reject PNP violence

Historians from Andean Studies from the Latin American History Conference (CLAH) issued a statement in solidarity with the families who are victims of the mobilizations that have been taking place in Peru.

"As historians, we study and value protests as a universal right and have investigated the consequences of handling riots without prudence, dialogue and respect for human rights. We recommend that the crimes committed by state forces in the repression of protests be investigated until justice is done for the victims and their families. We also recommend that those responsible for the crimes be tried in civil courts. Impunity is incompatible with the rule of law and the consolidation of democratic values," the document reads.

Aymaras march to Lima to demand the resignation of Dina Boluarte and the closure of Congress.

Protesters from different regions of southern Peru continue their journey to Lima to protest against the government of Dina Boluarte after rethinking the roads and ways to get to the capital after the police intervened a caravan in Pisco, Ica.

Leonel Flores, leader of the Ilave mountain range area, stated that these interventions would not be able to break them. "If we are going, it is because we want to renounce Dina Boluarte, nothing more. That's what we want. We are going to resist. The worst of all is how they put police on us and order us to continue. Their calls for democracy and peace is hypocrisy. What a pity," he lamented.

Cajamarca Ronderos join the National Strike

The Provincial Federation of  Rondas de Chota (Cajamarca) assured that all unions will join the National Strike on Thursday, January 19, to demand the resignation of Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress, advancement of general elections for this 2023 and change of Constitution.

In turn, the organization confirmed it will participate in the 'March of the Cuatro Suyos' which is scheduled for January 20.
