Peru: demonstration violence damages thirty-nine public offices and police stations (Spanish)
Puno registered twenty-five of these attacks.
Since demonstrations in various parts of the country restarted on January 4, a total of thirty-nine public and private properties have been damaged, causing serious disturbances of public order.
According to the Police Operations Center (CENOPOL) of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), during this week of demonstrations, sixteen headquarters of public entities and thirteen private entities were attacked, as well as ten police stations. All these occurred in the regions of Puno, Apurímac, Arequipa, Cusco, Tacna, and Huancavelica.
The wave of demonstration violence reached its peak in Puno, which registered twenty-five attacks. Apurímac followed this with eight; Cusco with three; Tacna with two; and Huancavelica with one.
Among the main infrastructures affected is the Inca Manco Cápac International Airport (JUL) in the city of Juliaca, which suffered damage including the destruction of three hundred meters of perimeter fence, four holes in Runway Number 30 and another four holes in the continuous walls.
