Puno: death toll rises to four after clashes with National Police.
After confrontations with the Peruvian National Police (PNP), the death toll rose in the city of Juliaca, Puno to four persons. They lost their lives during social demonstrations against Congress and the President Dina Boularte. According to local media, three bodies were taken to the morgue of the Carlos Monge Medrano Hospital. This is in addition to the death of Gabriel Omar Lopez Amanqui, a man who arrived lifeless at the La Revolución post in Juliaca.

National Strike: they confirm the first death in Juliaca during the demonstrations
Protests in the Puno region have intensified this Monday, January 9. As a result, a person lost his life in the city of Juliaca. According to local media, 35-year-old Gabriel Omar Lopez Amanqui, who suffered a serious head injury and died at around 2:00 p.m.
Until now, it was known that the victim was helped to arrive alive on a motorcycle to the Revolución post in Juliaca; however, after a few minutes it was confirmed that he had no vital signs. It was reported that the relatives of the deceased are outside the health center.

Ayacucho Airport (AYC) suspends operations due to protests.
The Ministry of Transportation (MTC) reported the suspension of operations at the Alfredo Mendívil Duarte Airport (AYC). This was a "preventive measure" due to protests against the Congress and President. In this way, the Ministry seeks to safeguard both passengers and workers. The air terminal will be closed this Tuesday, January 10 and the flights will have to be rescheduled.
“The MTC informs that, as a preventive measure, the Ayacucho Airport, Crnel. Alfredo Mendívil Duarte, will temporarily suspend its operations from Tuesday, January 10. Passengers with scheduled flights are asked to take the necessary precautionary measures," the Ministry explained in a statement.

Puno: Up to 20,000 Aymaras prepare to march towards Lima.
The city of Puno has been taken over by around 20,000 Aymara inhabitants from the southern part of the region, belonging to the districts of Acora, Ilave, Chucuito, Yunguyo, Zepita, Huacullani, among others.
In Puno's main square, dozens of women readied and prepared Andean products to feed the protesters during their marches towards the country's capital.
"We have called for ourselves, nobody is leading us, we are from the Acora area, nobody finances us, as Dina Boluarte believed. It is not like that, each community has organized to come, as they say 'with cracked legs' We are proud to come with our skirts and our huaracas, we are not afraid of the police or the military, we are not going to let ourselves be defeated", said a woman from Acore.

Tacna: protesters free the border between Peru and Chile
Citizens of the border district of La Yarada in Tacna, peacefully protested and blocked the two roads of the sector known as the Santa Rosa complex, preventing passage of vehicles and people from Peru to Chile.

Arequipa: protesters block roads in La Joya

Newborn dies on blocked road in Puno
A premature baby died on the Yunguyo-Puno highway, after several protesters prevented the ambulance that was taking them to the Manuel Núñez Butrón Regional Hospital from passing. The infant had respiratory complications.
Ronald Arpasi Turpo, the doctor who was transporting the baby, reported that there was an attempted attack by these protesters, who did not hesitate to puncture the ambulance's tire, even though the newborn needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible.

More than one hundred people were detained during protests in downtown Lima
More than one hundred people were detained while protesting near the University Park. The protesters demanded the resignation of Dina Boluarte. The PNP decided to transfer the detainees to the Cotabambas police station, in downtown Lima.

Aldair Mejía, from Agencia EFE and a former photojournalist for La República, was a victim of the clashes in Juliaca. The international journalist fractured his right leg after being shot by the PNP.
Mejía was threatened by the authorities while doing his work in the protest area. The journalist revealed that the police officers constantly intimidated him with phrases like "Get out of here. Because if I don't blow your head off, you're going to stay dead here."

Congressmen from the Puno region demand the resignation of Dina Boluarte
Through a statement, parliamentary members of the Puno region spoke out regarding the events that occurred last Saturday during the violent demonstrations in southern Peru. The congressmen demanded the resignation of President Dina Boluarte.
“The latest events in the Puno region have confirmed the repressive, dictatorial, military, and abusive character (...) to the extreme of not having distinguished who participates in a protest, since they have shot, beaten, and repressed in any way women, youth, adolescents, neighbors, and the regional and international press,” they reported.
They also added: "The request for his resignation, advancement of elections, closure of Congress and Constituent Assembly, has as a background the voice of a people that reacts to so much neglect and abandonment...".
