Moquegua: Road Blockades Continue on Second day of Stoppage (Spanish)
Moquegua: On the second day of the 48-hour strike called in Moquegua against the government and Congress, the main access roads to the city were blocked by protesters who mobilized to demand the advancement of general elections for this year, the resignation of the President of Dina Boluarte and the closure of Congress. One of the areas where vehicle traffic was prevented was the oval of the cemetery, a strategic place that leads to the Binational Highway
The protesters also blocked the road to the riverside boardwalk with stones, which caused the discomfort of some drivers, who had no choice but to return the way they came. A similar situation occurred at the entrance to the San Antonio District through Mariano Lino Urquieta Avenue, in the Chen Chen populated center and the Jerusalén ravine.
During the day there were tense moments that fortunately did not lead to clashes between citizens and protesters. The Plaza Vea shopping center in Moquegua was guarded by soldiers and police, but a picket of strikers arrived demanding that the doors of the establishment be closed and that it stop serving the public. The protesters described it as a provocation that the stores continued to serve the public as normal.
In turn, a protest picket made up of merchants from the Manco Cápac market in the San Antonio district toured various streets in the area to demand that the owners of grocery stores close their doors and join the measure of force.
