March in Lima: Ombudsman's Office reports the death of a protester in confrontation with PNP (Spanish)

Ombudsman's Office confirms that Víctor Raúl Santisteban Yacsavilca died in tonight's protest in Cercado de Lima.

The March in Lima today, Saturday January 28, turned violent and claimed a life. This victim was a 55-year-old man who was in the confrontation between the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and protesters on Avenida Abancay. A projectile hit him and caused his death, as confirmed by the Defensoría del Pueblo (Ombudsman).

The deceased citizen is Víctor Raúl Santisteban Yacsavilca, who was on Avenida Abancay participating in protests that left several injured and caused material damage to Lima's historic center. Outside the Grau Hospital where Santisteban Yacsavilca was taken, many people gathered to hold a vigil and continue with demonstrations.

Mr. Santisteban Yacsavilca was a resident of the Yayos Provence of the Lima Region.

According to information obtained by La República, there are also eight people in Grau Hospital who were injured in today's confrontation.
