The southern zone of the country, one of the most active in the demonstrations against the government of Dina Boluarte and the Congress of the Republic, is not giving room for a truce. Today, January 9, hundreds of indigenous residents of Aymara and Quechua origin gathered in two main points of the city, the Plaza de Puno and Juliaca.

Due to the arrival of hundreds of Aymara residents, who also left early this Monday, agents of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) placed a barrier made of sandbags at the door of the main police station. One of the officers declared that this measure was preventive, and that the police only sought to keep the peace.

The arrival of the demonstrators was indeed peaceful and remained so during the protest in the Plaza de Puno with the presence of the PNP.  Protestors demanded the resignation of President Boluarte and the advancement of elections.

Juliaca will also receive Aymara and Quechua from the provinces and communities of Ayaviri, Azangaro, Carabaya, Huancane, Lampa, Moho, Watermelon and Putina.
