Ica: Protesters Join Strike and Block Several Sections of the Panamericana Sur (Spanish)

Several buses and cars that left Lima bound for Ica, Arequipa, Cusco, and Tacna are stranded. Protesters block traffic at three pickets located at the height of Barrio Chino, Expansión Urbana, and El Alamo.

Demonstrators came out at the stroke of midnight on Thursday to protest against Dina Boluarte

Demonstrators in Ica joined the strike that began on Wednesday in various regions of the country. Last night a group of people stationed themselves at kilometer 262 of the Panamericana Sur Highway and blocked the pass in the area known as Barrio Chino, in the District of Salas Guadalupe, Ica Province.

The protesters obstructed the traffic of vehicles during the night and early morning of this Thursday, and this morning there were also blockade pickets in the sections of kilometer 290 in Expansión Urbana and kilometer 299, in the Álamo area, at the entrance to the city of Ica.

The demonstrators block the road with stones, sticks, and tires, which have been set on fire in some pickets. There is little police presence at the blockade points at this time of the morning.

On Wednesday night, the National Police reported that the traffic of vehicles moving north and south of Ica was restricted. Buses and cars that had left Lima bound for Ica, Arequipa, Cusco, and Tacna were stranded, as were those coming from these southern regions bound for the capital.

The Highway Police stopped the traffic of vehicles from north to south in the Santa Cruz area, in the Paracas district, Pisco province, to prevent vehicles from reaching the area that is blocked and confronting the protesters. The same panorama is observed with the vehicles that go from south to north, they have been stopped one kilometer from Barrio Chino.

Passengers are waiting for the police to clear the Panamericana Sur Highway so that they can continue with their journey, as they fear that the same thing as last December will happen again, when buses remained stranded for several days due to the blockades.

A picket line of protesters blocks the Panamericana Sur Highway at kilometer 299 in the Alamo area, at the entrance to the city of Ica.
