Cusco: Protesters burn police bus in Chumbivilcas (Spanish)
The vehicle carrying Peruvian National Police (PNP) agents was attacked last night by a group of three hundred people.
Last night, Tuesday, January 10, a mob burned a bus that was taking police officers to the area of the mining corridor, in the district of Chamaca, province of Chumbivilcas, in Cusco, as confirmed by the VII Macro Police Region of this region.
The vehicle was transporting police personnel from the "Conguya" base to "Wincho", between the districts of Colquemarca and Santo Tomás. According to the PNP, this bus was attacked around 8:00 p.m. by a group of three hundred protesters who were on the highway.
According to the driver, Víctor Alan Cahuana Roca (27), the bus was heading to Wincho with police personnel on board, but the agents got out of the vehicle when they realized that the roads were blocked.
The driver mentioned that he had gone to the Chamaca district, but was approached by a group of protesters, who threatened to burn the vehicle. Cahuana Roca called the rest of the police and there was a confrontation in the area.
The demonstrators were a larger group than the PNP agents, so the police withdrew towards Wincho. The demonstrators used this action to burn the police vehicle.
According to information from the VII Macro Police Region, there are no injured people. Likewise, it was announced that the driver was assisted by personnel from the Wincho Base. These facts have already been communicated to the Provincial Prosecutor Percy Chihuantito Aragón.
