Cusco: air and train operations are suspended until further notice as preventive measure (Spanish)
As a preventive measure, the Teniente Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUS), located in the city of Cusco, will temporarily suspend its operations, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported this afternoon.
Through its Twitter account, the MTC specified that the action was taken "to safeguard the integrity of people and the safety of aeronautical operations."
'The MTC informs that, as a preventive measure, Velasco Astete de 'Cusco International Airport will temporarily suspend its operations. This action is carried out to safeguard the integrity of people and the safety of aeronautical operations,' he wrote.
Train service also suspended
The Inca Rail company announced the suspension of its train operations this Thursday, January 19, due to the protests taking place on the access route to Machu Picchu, in Cusco.
"The concessionaire of the railway line, Ferrocarril Trasandino, has suspended the transit of our operations today, January 19, 11:15 am onwards," the company said in a statement.
In addition, it explained to its affected users that they can make inquiries, process changes or returns to the email cdpaxdirecto@incarail.com.
Earlier, the PeruRail company also suspended its rail operations between the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu stations due to the presence of protesters in the Ollantaytambo district.
"In order to preserve the safety of passengers and tourists who were going to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and returning, they decided to suspend operations," PeruRail details.
