Anahí Durand: "There are testimonies of sexual violence against detainees in San Marcos" (Spanish)
"This is how they instrumentalize women's rights," she said.
Anahí Durand denounces sexual abuse of women protesters after arrest in an operation.
The former Minister of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP), Anahí Durand, denounced through her Twitter account abuses against the protesters detained on the UNMSM campus, last Saturday, January 21, after the police operation.
Abuses against women
Anahí Durand begins her Twitter post by indicating that "there are testimonies of sexual violence against women detainees in San Marcos" (the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM)), then she specified that some television hosts did not address the situation in their Sunday programs. "Yesterday neither Mónica Delta nor Sol Carreño said a word on the subject."
Durand also blamed the current leadership of the MIMP and the Congress of the Republic for not doing their part in making this case of an attack against the dignity of the protesters unfairly deprived of their liberty relevant.
"The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations and the Congress of the Republic either," she said.
In that line, Durand ended her tweet, alluding that the powers of women are run over by people who have power. In addition to specifying that we are the women themselves who take care of ourselves in situations that endanger our safety.
"This is how they instrumentalize women's rights. We take care of ourselves. Only the people save the people", she said.
Durand shared a Twitter post from Cajamarca journalist Jaime Herrera (@JaimeHerreraCaj) featuring a video of one of the women detained in Sunday's Peruvian National Police (PNP) operation at the UNMSM. In the video attached to the Twitter thread, you can hear the complaint from a young woman:"A young lady was grabbed from here, her entire blouse has been torn, and I think there are witnesses who have touched others," she said.
In addition, she adds "I would tell Mrs. Dina to resign at once because where else she wants to go, there are already enough deaths."
Finally, the young woman refers that she is in the capital city because President Dina Boluarte in one of her messages to the nation indicated that they should arrive in Lima to make their demands known.
"We have actually come, because I think that in the Message to the Nation, she said that we provincials come, that we be present," she said.
