There is an Outbreak of Dengue that has been Affecting Children

Dr. Christian Carey Ángeles spoke in front of the future health officials of the new regional management.

But it was not the only thing he released, he spoke about the Zero Malaria Plan, the same one that has a significant budget to mitigate. He is concerned that, in Yavari and Balsapuerto, malaria cases are increasing compared to 2017.

“Right now, there is a situation of dengue outbreak and children are affected. The last outbreak in children was in 2011, today after eleven years it has returned, not in the same magnitude, but it has been spreading in susceptible children” Carey mentioned.

He spoke in front of the future health officials that, thanks to the Zero Malaria Plan, adopted at the national level by the Ministry of Health (MINSA), in Loreto the disease has been reduced by 75%. The plan has a budget until 2030, but this must logically be sustained year after year to obtain results in containing the advance of malaria.

“Right now, there are districts with a very high risk of malaria, which are the ones that contribute the most malaria in the region. Fifty percent of the cases are in Datem del Marañón. Loreto Nauta and Ramon Castilla.

In Datem are the districts of Andoas, Pastaza and Morona. After Nauta, Trumpeters, Tigre and Urarinas. In Ramón Castilla, the district of Yavarí and Ramón, as a district itself. In Balsapuerto and Yavari, the cases have been increasing,” he announced.

Then he spoke that they have a budget of S/ 9,545,000 for strategies of the malaria elimination plan. Pending the approval of a gap for S/ 4,123,000 which must be supported together with work on the corresponding strategies.
