Consulted social organizations from Ayacucho, Huancavelica and Andahuaylas (Apurímac) reported that they are in meetings to decide on the possibility of resuming the mobilizations and protests in rejection of the Congress of the Republic and President Dina Boluarte in the first days of January.
Meanwhile, the Executive announced for this Tuesday the installation of a multisectoral commission to analyze the option of granting economic reparations or solidarity support to the relatives of those who died in the context of protests and state repression.
Key Meetings
Today at six in the afternoon, the social organizations of Huancavelica will meet to analyze the situation and Congress' decision to remain in office until July 2024. Based on the views of the representatives, a decision will be made.
In Ayacucho, there was already a prior agreement to restart the marches and protests on January 4, 2023. However, as reported, the decision will have to be ratified in a forthcoming assembly. In this region, several leaders have chosen to keep their identities confidential, in the event of possible judicial or military reprisals.
In Andahuaylas there is also a preliminary agreement to restart the protests on January 3.
In Huancavelica, Ayacucho and Andahuaylas, the police and military repression that claimed human lives is a variable that the organizations analyze.
On the other hand, some social organizations in Arequipa are holding coordination meetings to define the eventual restart of the protests from next week.
Meanwhile, in the north, in La Libertad, organizations and artists called for a sit-in today, in rejection of the acts of police and military repression that caused the death of young people and adolescents.
Strike in Ilave
In Ilave (Puno), the Aymara communities abide by an indefinite strike and the main roads were blocked yesterday, according to La República. The protesters did not rule out receiving the New Year in full stoppage.
In the mobilizations a greater presence of women was verified. Several expressed their rejection of President Dina Boluarte and Congress. A sector announced to travel to Lima to support the protests and in the harangues, they insisted that the deaths of the repressions should not go unpunished.
Meanwhile, in La Convención (Cusco), the struggle committee expressed its support for an indefinite strike, in protest against Dina Boluarte and the demand for new general elections.
Solidarity Support
From the Executive Power there was an announcement for today, for the installation of a multisectoral commission in charge of analyzing the situation of the twenty-eight deaths (twenty-two due to repression and six due to blockades or accidents in the context of strikes) and the allocation of financial support.
“The Government will provide financial solidarity support for the relatives of those who died during the protests. This measure goes hand in hand with a proper investigation and determination of responsibility," Justice Minister José Tello reported yesterday on TV Peru.
Last Saturday, Tello explained in RPP that the multisectoral commission will have the participation of different actors, including the National Human Rights Coordinator. In fact, from this organization there was no confirmation of the call until last night.
Minister Tello said that two representatives of the families of the victims will also be summoned to the commission.
When asked about the issue, Jack Diburga, lawyer for the relatives of the ten victims of the Ayacucho repression, stated that no economic support will imply the suspension of the fiscal process, through which justice and criminal sanctions are sought for those responsible.
Government Issues New Invitation to the IACHR
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported yesterday that the Peruvian government issued a new invitation to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to complete its investigation work.
A delegation from the IACHR technical secretariat arrived in Peru between December 20 and 22, and even traveled to some regions to find out details about facts that would constitute a violation of human rights, as a product of the repression.
In the communication released yesterday by the Foreign Ministry, they emphasized that the Peruvian authorities would continue to provide full collaboration to the IACHR.
This same supranational instance reported in previous days that in January 2023 there will be a visit with the participation of Commissioners.
