Protests in Peru: the number of deaths during the nationwide clashes rises to 19 (La República [Spanish] - 12/16/2022)


Demonstrations, road closures and pickets were registered in different regions in the National Strike on Friday.

Diresa Junín reports that three people have died from protests in the region
The Junín Regional Health Directorate reported that three people have lost their lives, only in this region, because of protests in favor of early elections and the closure of Congress. They also indicated that there were fifty-two injured.

Certificates confirm deaths from firearm projectiles in Ayacucho
The Republic agreed to four death certificates of the victims of the first day of the strike against the government of Dina Boluarte and the Congress, in Ayacucho. The documents confirm that the deaths were caused by projectiles from firearms (PAF). One of the victims was a minor of just 15 years old.

According to information from family members, the first person killed because of shots fired by military personnel was Clemer Rojas García, 22 years old. This wording reviewed the death certificate issued after the legal autopsy and the document establishes as the cause of death: "FAP thoracoabdominal trauma." This acronym is the reference to a projectile by firearm (PAF).

Cusco: "If there were good leaders, good politicians we would have elected them, not Pedro Castillo"

For many years now, Peru has been going through a deep crisis of representation, the same one that was accentuated 6 years ago with the election of a Congress that was mostly Fujimorista, the same one that was dissolved. 

Since then, the country has had six presidents in less than 5 years, a historic figure even within the South American region. And less than two weeks ago Pedro Castillo was vacated, since then massive protests have claimed the lives of at least fifteen people in three regions.

The Executive will seek the legal forms for the advancement of elections
The Ministers of State, Oscar Vera of Energy and Mines, and Luis Elguero of Foreign Trade and Tourism, arrived in the city of Cusco, to establish a dialogue that provides a solution to the social conflict that is being experienced in recent times. 

Regarding the advancement of elections, Oscar Vera said that the Executive sent a bill to Congress for this purpose, ensuring that the administration of Dina Boluarte is a government established within the Law. (more)
