Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Saturday announced that 187 points, which had been blocked in the country, are now clear and vehicles circulate normally.
"Today, I received a report from Sutran (the Superintendence of Land Transportation of People, Cargo, and Goods); of the 187 points that were blocked, these 187 remain clear and vehicles move normally, which contributes to Peruvians spending the holidays without violence," he said in remarks to RPP Noticias.
The Cabinet chief once again lamented the deaths of citizens registered during the days of protests in diverse Peruvian regions, adding that the Government will implement a reparations program accordingly.
"With some peace of mind, we can see that the population will spend a calm Christmas, and that brings satisfaction to our administration, because we were in a complex situation during such tragic days, but now we are satisfied (with the fact) that Peruvians can live a period of tranquility," he expressed.
In this regard, the Cabinet chief specified that the control of internal order is held by the National Police during the national emergency. Besides, the Armed Forces work in support of the police. In this sense, Otarola indicated that Peru is one of the countries where the use of force is most regulated.
"Unfortunately, 26 deaths occurred. Yet that must be investigated by the competent bodies; we are going to support the Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary," he affirmed.
Within this framework, the Prime Minister specified that he was the first official who had requested to meet with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights delegation in Peru, when he was serving as Defense Minister.
"There, we explained what had happened, and they were given all support for transfer to the country's interior (regions) because our commitment is that the facts be clarified," he added.
As is known, Alberto Otarola became Prime Minister on December 21. He is part of President Dina Boluarte's administration.
As is known, Mrs. Boluarte officially became President of the Republic on December 7 after ex-President Pedro Castillo was constitutionally impeached and removed from office by Parliament.
