The District of Iquitos woke up yesterday with large accumulations of solid waste.

The residents of the district of Iquitos were upset due to the large amounts of solid waste that woke up yesterday, Monday, December 26, in their streets, especially in the western zone, as they denounced. citizens who insured the garbage had not been collected for several days.

In the 25 block of Putumayo Street, the garbage occupied up to part of a lane of the busy road that made traffic difficult for drivers who had to invade the opposite lane to avoid running over the bags. “We have to go through the other lane so as not to break the bags and cause more dirt. At any moment there will be an accident," said a motorcycle taxi driver.

For their part, the residents of the street were upset because, according to what they claimed, the solid waste collection car from the Provincial Municipality of Maynas had not spent the entire weekend, causing excessive accumulation of garbage. “It is difficult to live like this, with ugly odors. And it is not a problem now, it happened throughout the year because they come here to collect the garbage every three or four days” denounced a disgruntled citizen.

A similar situation occurred in San Antonio Street, where the residents around the San Antonio square, chose to burn the garbage to prevent it from continuing to accumulate. The neighbors assured that they could no longer wait for the garbage collection service due to the bad odors that affected the neighborhood and public space.

The streets of the district of Iquitos, around the commercial area of Belén, also presented large accumulations of garbage, which upset the merchants who assured that the garbage was not collected for three days. “The mayor is about to leave, but he is not leaving with good management. Garbage collection must be daily, especially in this area that supplies the table of the Iquiteños” said a vendor.

In various areas where large amounts of garbage accumulated, there were signs prohibiting the collection of solid waste that alerted the penalty of a fine, which was not respected by the citizens, who agreed that contempt of the population could be avoided with adequate awareness of the garbage collection schedule in each sector of the city.
