Dina Boluarte Rules Out Resigning from Presidency: "We would be generating anarchy in the country" (Spanish)

The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte said that her possible resignation as Head of State would only generate anarchy in the country because the head of Congress, José Williams, would assume the reins of Peru and considering the high disapproval of the Legislature.

“What would resolve my resignation? We would be generating anarchy in the country. Because after my resignation he (José Williams) would come to assume the Presidency of the Republic. The population already knows the qualification and score that Congress has on this date,” Boluarte said at a press conference with foreign media.

Along these lines, the head of the Executive Power specified that, if she left office, Congress would call general elections without having established policy bases within the framework of electoral reforms.

Congress, in assuming the presidency, would have to call a general election in months, but on what policy grounds would it have to call, we would be walking through the same political mess. That is why, responsibly, assuming the constitutional mandate, despite the political crisis, I am assuming the leadership of my Country from the Presidency of the Republic,” Boluarte pointed out.

Boluarte will travel to regions.

President Dina Boluarte also announced that she will travel to the interior of the country to explain in person what happened after the failed coup attempt by Pedro Castillo, who is serving a preventive detention order.

"(About marches) there are also tiny groups that want to get a breeding ground for this, because the large population follows these leaders, because they are the ones who speak best, those who express themselves best or those who lie best, for this reason, we are going to start traveling to be able, myself, to explain to them that I tried as much as I could to accompany former president Pedro Castillo as his Vice President. That I am not responsible for what has happened to him, that in any case the people very close to the former president have to give an answer and they owe the country an answer."

Confidence vote.

President Dina Boluarte also mentioned that on January 10 her ministerial cabinet will request a vote of confidence, taking legislative initiatives for political reforms.

“On January 10, when the cabinet is going to ask for a vote of confidence, we will also be carrying out the legislative initiatives for political reforms, because Peru must start growing with political responsibility. Those who want to be candidates must be people who have a view of the country who are interested in solving the underlying problems,” she declared.
