Congress does not approve early elections.
The opinion promoted by Hernando Guerra García (Popular Force) reached 49 votes in favor, 33 against and 25 abstentions. As it was a constitutional reform, it required 87 votes in two legislatures or 66 votes, ratified via referendum.
In the midst of cries of a "new Constitution" from the former pro-government benches, the plenary session of Congress did not reach the votes to approve the opinion to advance the general elections to December 2023 and the reduction of the presidential and parliamentary mandates for April 30 of 2024.
