Artists Show Solidarity with Victims in Protests (HBA Noticias [Spanish] - 12/26/2022)
Event will seek to remember fallen Protestants.
Artists nationwide will gather in open public spaces to stand in solidarity with the victims of recent protests over the current political crisis. These activities will take place on Tuesday, December 27 from 5 pm in the Plaza de Armas (in the case of Arequipa).
As it is remembered, on Wednesday, December 7, former President Pedro Castillo made a failed closure of the congress for which he was emptied, and replaced by Dina Boluarte, who accepted the position despite the questions. This situation generated a political crisis for which various sectors of the population came out to protest demanding the call for new elections due to the grievances committed by the national legislature in its activities and statements to the press.
In the protests, police officers murdered multiple people, mainly in regions such as Apurímac, Ayacucho, Arequipa, and others.
After this situation, multiple artists and cultural managers will honor the memory of those who died fighting for the general elections to be held.
On the other hand, those who will be present at this activity are also against the stigmatization of the protest, because they accused several protesters of terrorism; the disagreement with Congress, due to the reforms and decisions that -according to various sectors- do not benefit the population; and the militarization of the government, for which there were several attacks on the demonstrators.
It should be noted that this will not be the first cultural activity in Arequipa that is carried out to commemorate these events. On Thursday, December 22, several artists and cultural managers gathered to demand justice for the fallen in the Plaza de Armas. On that occasion, there was live music, poetry, theater shows, etc.
