Arequipa Runs Out of Fruit

THE WHITE CITY IS LEFT WITHOUT A SUPPLY OF FRUIT IN THE RÍO SECO MARKET DUE TO ROADBLOCKS.

Not even the last six trucks that entered the city between Sunday the 18th and Monday the 19th after the truce given by the protesters on the Panamericana Sur highway have been able to replenish the stock because 90% of the products arrived damaged after being stranded for more than of nine days.

The protesters, who are calling for the closure of Congress and new elections and are at kilometer 619, in Chala, Caravelí, last Sunday lifted the blockades for a period of two hours so that the stranded vehicles can transit.

In that course, only six trucks passed, carrying fruit from the north and center of the country to Arequipa.

However, when unpacking the loads, the outlook was bleak for the merchants since 90% of their products had already been spoiled. Passion fruit and moldy peaches, fermented citrus, and fungus. The completely black banana. Just like pineapples, which are no longer useful even for feeding animals.

After this panorama, merchants already consider 100% of the shipments that are still on the road for lost. It is important to mention that there are about twenty-four stranded trucks on the roads. According to Huayapa, the losses of the 320 merchants exceed one million soles and the most worrying thing is that most of them work with banks that finance the shipments.

It should be noted that the cheapest loads are of fruits such as watermelon, which cost around S/ 40,000. While the most expensive are peaches and other fruits that come from Tingo María, reaching S/ 80,000.

After this outcome, Huayapa pointed out that the merchants have been left with debts and decided not to seek more loads until traffic is restored.
