Sedapal announces interruption of drinking water service in 22 districts of Lima on October 6 (Gob.pe press release [Spanish])
In 75% of affected districts, service will be recovered within the first 48 hours. Health centers, penitentiaries and fire stations will be supplied directly.
In order to improve the supply of drinking water to the districts of Lima Sur, next Friday, October 6, Sedapal (Servicio de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado de Lima) will interrupt service in 22 districts of Lima, due to the execution of two joints, incorporating a new 2-meter diameter pipe, that will increase supply through the ATARJEA Matrix Reinforcement Drives – Villa El Salvador.
The entity has foreseen that the execution of the works, in charge of the Miraflores Consortium company, will last twelve hours, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Likewise, taking into account the start-up of the plant and the filling of the primary and secondary water networks, the reestablishment of the service will be carried out progressively by sector.
The 22 districts that will be affected by the interruption will be: Barranco, Surquillo, La Molina, Ate, La Victoria, Miraflores, San Isidro, San Luis, El Agustino, Rímac, San Martín de Porres, Cieneguilla, Santa Anita, Villa El Salvador, Independencia, San Juan de Lurigancho, San Borja, Santiago de Surco, San Juan de Miraflores, Villa María del Triunfo, Lurín and Chorrillos.
Of the total of the affected districts, 18 will recover the service within the first 48 hours, after that, the remaining four, by geographical conditions, they will have low pressures and will normalize within an estimated maximum period of 96 hours.
In order to ensure supply to the population, Sedapal will enable drinking water distribution points through tank trucks, which may be viewed soon on their website (www.gob.pe/sedapal). In addition, the Aquafono telephone service (01) 317-8000, will answer user inquiries.
On the other hand, the water and sanitation company indicated that health centers, penitentiaries and fire stations will be supplied directly, with tankers so as not to affect their activities.
Said actions that will improve the drinking water supply and the detailed contingency plan, they were revealed during a coordination meeting between the Sedapal Board of Directors and the Executive Presidency of the Sunass (Superintendencia Nacional de Servicios de Saneamiento).
Finally, Sedapal regrets the inconveniences caused to the population and reaffirms its commitment to work to achieve the closing of gaps and that more residents of Lima and Callao access water services and sanitation.
