Today's National Strike: PNP Closes Access to Paracas and Roads are Blocked in Juliaca and Cusco (Spanish)

Protesters kidnap workers from a road concessionaire in Madre de Dios.

IIrsa Sur, concessionaire in charge of the operation and maintenance of Sections 2 and 3 of the Interoceanic Highway South, reported that a group of demonstrators kidnapped a crew of its workers at km 248 of section 3 of the aforementioned road, in Madre de Dios.

Protests intensified in the provinces and districts of the Cusco region. In the morning, around 2,000 citizens of the province of Calca and Pisac arrived at the Imperial City and held a mass protest.

In other provinces, such as Canchis, Combapata, Checacupe, Paruro, Quispicanchi, Anta, Ocongate, Quiquijana and various districts of the region, activities have been paralyzed, there were marches and road blockades. The demonstrations continue and it has been reported that more residents from different areas will arrive in a staggered manner to the capital of the region.

Chiclayo: Protesters temporarily take over the Reque bridge. 

In Chiclayo, dozens of people gathered outside the district of Reque to protest against the Government and the Congress of the Republic. The demonstrators attended in black t-shirts and carried in their hands photographs of the citizens who died in December last year.

The marchers indicated that they will not accept dialogue with the national authorities until the State of Emergency is completed. 

Protesters called the struggle "the great march of sacrifice" because they walked along the Panamericana Norte for more than two hours until they reached Chiclayo.

The protesters took over the Reque Bridge for approximately 15 minutes and there was heavy traffic congestion both north and south of the road.

Lima: bus ticket sales to Arequipa, Puno and other southern regions of the country are suspended.

Travel agencies located in Lima have suspended the sale of bus tickets to the cities of Puno, Ica, Juliaca, Arequipa, among others, due to the pickets and blockades registered in the Panamericana Sur, as part of the protests in favor of the early elections.

At the Flores agency, they only offered tickets to Cañete (S/20), Chincha (S/25) and the crossing with Pisco (S/30). Given this, several informal groups are providing trips to the city of Ica for the price of S/100; this is without any guarantee of reaching the destination.

Puno loses 450 million soles a day due to indefinite strike.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Puno (CCPP), Francisco Aquise Aquise, reported that Puno loses 450 million soles per day due to the indefinite strike that the different social and union organizations of the region abide by.

"As a result of the paralysis of economic activities, the State does not receive taxes, the brothers in rural areas cannot sell their products. The loss is for everyone and I think we should reflect on this situation. We have been recovering from the effects of the pandemic, but now it is the strike," he said.

The Ombudsman's Office has reported conflicts that mobilizations and concentrations in 15 provinces of the country: Chincheros, Arequipa, Parinacochas, Cajamarca, Huánuco, Cusco, Canas, Satipo, Tambopata, Ilo, El Collao, San Román, Melgar, Puno and Tacna.

They also indicated that there has been partial or total paralysis of activities in Chincheros, Canchis, La Convención, Melgar, and Tacna.

What roads are blocked according to SUTRAN?

According to the Superintendent of Land Transport of People, Cargo and Goods (SUTRAN) there are currently six regions affected by the blockade of roads: Ica, Junín, Ucayali, Puno, Cusco and Madre de Dios. The entity reports that demonstrators are protesting in favor of the closure of Congress and for new presidential elections.

Blocked points:

- Ica -> Longitudinal of the south coast. 

- Junín -> Longitudinal of the southern jungle.

- Ucayali -> Longitudinal of the northern jungle.

- Puno -> Highway Moquegua - Torata - Mazo Cruz - Desaguadero.

- Cusco -> Longitudinal of the south sierre.

- Madre de Dios -> Carretera Urcos - Mazuco - Iñapari.

Puno, so far, has 21 points with interrupted traffic.

On the second day of protests in Cusco, between 1,500 to 2,000 demonstrators poured into the streets of the Historic Center to head towards the main square.

Tacna:

The protests in Tacna against the Government and Congress were carried out peacefully, reported the Peruvian National Police. 

Urban transport, markets and commercial areas attended normally, although they closed their doors momentarily when mobilizations passed through their premises.

Pickets and roads blocked with stones were recorded in Albarracín. The demonstrators rejected the presence of the national or local press, stating that they would broadcast the mobilizations through their own channels. There were no assaults.

FDTA unions toured the Historic Center of Arequipa

On the second day of the indefinite strike against the government of Dina Boluarte and the Congress of the Republic, the number protesters in Arequipa were reduced. Protestors belonging to the unions of the Arequipa Departmental Federation of Workers (FDTA), walked the streets of the Cercado to the Plaza de Armas.

About a hundred workers from the Civil Construction Union marched through the Historic Center. The protesters confirmed that they will continue with this measure during the indefinite strike in the Southern Macroregion.
