The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra, tried to resign from the position she holds today on two occasions. She thus made herself known in a note published this Sunday in La República. This occurred after the first deaths that occurred during the demonstrations in December 2022 were recorded, which called for her departure from the Executive, as well as the advancement of general elections.

According to sources close to the head of state, the initiative of Boluarte Zegarra was prevented by the President of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola Peñaranda. The Prime Minister would have convinced her not to leave her presidency by alleging that they would be prosecuted if he did.

Among the promises that the chief of staff made to Dina Boluarte was that she would get the support of the right-wing benches, as well as the Armed Forces.

Dina Boluarte ruled out resigning and stated that her government is "firm"

On January 19, while the national strike against the government of Dina Boluarte was taking place, the president reiterated that she will not resign from the presidency and affirmed that her ministerial cabinet "is more united than ever."

“The situation is under control because we know that these gentlemen are not going to stop their process of breaking the rule of law (...) denying the false news that has been invading all the networks. The Government is firm and its cabinet more united than ever “, she maintained in her message accompanied by some of her state ministers.

In that same statement, the President assured that the National Intelligence Directorate and the Prosecutor's Office will open prosecution files against "those people who have generated acts of violence, destruction of private property and the State."
