Arequipa - 'Common pots' suspend service due to lack of gas
Given the gas shortage in Arequipa, 80% of common pots in the province stopped operating in the last week until the supply is restored, which they estimate will be next week. This situation affects more than 5,000 people who use the service to feed their families.
The member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Common Pots of Arequipa (FEDOCAR), Abel Capira Yanque, reported that more than 120 common pots operate in the city. Of these, 103 are recognized by the central government and another twenty are in the process of being formalized.
In each of these pots, at least fifty servings a day are served. Depending on the district, the portion and price of the menu varies. For example, in Cono Norte there are pots that only serve main course and soda for a symbolic cost of S/2.50 or S/3.00, while pots that serve soup, main course and soda have prices ranging from S/3.50 to S /5.00.
However, regardless of the cost of the ration, these days all the common pots are being affected, not only due to the gas deficit in the city, which has now increased its price from S/41.50 to S/55, but also by the increase in the price of food, especially meat products.
Capira explained that each time the money reaches less in the market. From S/1.50 or S/2.00 that the potato cost, now they must pay S/3.50 per kilo, the same happens with some vegetables. The worst happens with meat products; For example, a kilo of chicken is over S/8.50 and meat is over S/12.50. Faced with this panorama, the ladies of the common pots only carry chicken giblets or the joints of the beef to give flavor to the meals.
